1. Gossip!
Tell people what you are doing! Keep yourself accountable! I do this. Everyone who is close to me knows what I am doing. This blog is to keep me accountable. I don’t like admitting defeat. So it pushes me to continue. I hate telling people “I gained 2 pounds” ouch. It makes me want to continue. It’s embarrassing to tell people that you are losing weight….it’s like admitting you have a problem….trust me, I know firsthand. It’s better afterwards…honest! But it’s a support group on top of it. I lost so much more weight when I wasn’t trying to hide the fact that I was losing weight (I also got far less questioning and alarmed looks). It is essentially a support group. People that will congratulate you when you accomplish something, or encourage you to keep going when you have a slip up.

I’m not telling you to go out and start a website. If you want to, then go for it. If not, don’t force yourself to.

Just tell someone. Anyone.

2. Motivate yourself

There are half a million things that you can do to keep yourself motivated. I have several things help me push forward. I’m a firm believer in working towards a goal. If I don’t have a goal in mind, then I don’t feel the need to do something. It’s just a fact of my life, and my weight loss life is no different.

I find it easier to lose weight when you are working towards something. Other than the ending result of the goal weight.

I like the idea of having things that reflect both the past and the future. I love the idea of people who have buckets full of 5 pound bags of rice, every 5 pounds they lose they add a bag of rice, and they lift it once a month to remind themselves how much weight they had been carrying around. I do wonder what they do with the rice afterwards.

I have a goal jar. Whenever I hit one of my goals I put 10 dollars into a little jar. By the time I hit my goals, I’ll have 400 dollars saved up!

I have my chips (basically little chips that I give to myself whenever I lose a certain amount of weight. I’ll have to explain this better some day).

I have met people who do the bikini picture in the fridge. Or a tattoo.

Anything you can think of that will keep you pushing towards that end result. Find something to motivate yourself with. Set a goal for yourself. I have yet to meet one person that the “motivation method” hasn’t worked for.

Water is essential. Lets face it…we all know it.

We need water.

That doesn’t include soda, juice, sports drinks, etc. (don’t drink your calories!!!)

I’m talking pure H2O…..

1. Drink More Water

Drink it up! Drink about 64 ounces (about 1/2 a gallon) a day. Seems tough….But most people are awake 16 hours a day (assuming you get 8 hours of sleep….  that’s only 4 ounces of water an hour…. not even a cup full…. you can do it! I love water…so it’s not hard for me to do….just pace yourself.

2. Don’t like water?

That’s ok…make it taste better…try out some infused waters. Basically you just boil some water, add in some yummy stuff and let it cool down. The combinations you can come up with are insane. I currently have citrus water in my fridge.

There is still a debate whether or not Coffee/Tea count as water. The main ingredient of these is water. I personally, I don’t count them as water. Don’t ask me why, I honestly have no idea. Some people do. Use your own judgement.

New Look

I have finally finished my header…. only took me forever to do it. Paint is not a very good tool for making that kind of stuff…..but it works when it’s all I’ve got!!!!

I’m all excited, I hated the other template…totally not what I was looking for, but with pre-made templates not much to choose from.

Everything is still in the same spot, but if you happen to get a glitch just let me know!!!!

I’ll be getting my own domain soon….

but that won’t be for a little bit.

Oh, and before anyone says anything, I realized too late that I spelled “chica” in the picture and “chika” in the web address…. I’m in the process of fixing it. At this point it makes the most sense to have to domain be “chica” rather than “chika.”

Keep a look-out in my NEWS spot, I’ll let you know before I switch over.



Healthy Eating

Ok. Upfront I am going to tell you that you HAVE to watch what you eat. I am NOT going to tell you that you can’t eat junk food.

Here is my philosophy on eating…ready for it?



Seriously. The minute someone decides they want to go on a diet (fyi…I hate that word) junk food is out the window.

This was my biggest mistake with losing weight. I had the hardest time with it during all of my weight loss attempts. I would do the typical things like no more candy, no more sugar…that kind of thing. But it didn’t work for me. There are that few rare people who can do that and lose weight successfully, but in my personal opinion it just didn’t work for me.

I still eat cheesecake, cupcakes, chocolate, ice cream, chips… just in moderation. If you tell yourself you can’t eat it, you will be miserable.

The key is to eat it with some control. Once in a while (1 or 2 times a week isn’t going to hurt you) Eat small portions, 1/2 a cup of ice cream is still going to make you as happy as the whole pint,1 cookie is still going to make you as happy as 6.

It’s all about control.

When I first started losing weight, I had talked to a doctor for the best way to do it. He suggested counting calories. So I tried it, and have been doing it ever since. Does this mean it is the only way to lose weight? Of course not. It is just the way that worked for me.

I count calories to keep myself in control. I have a certain number of calories that I allow myself to eat on a daily basis. It’s usually right around 1400 (varies either way). Find what works for you and stick to it.

1. Freggies!

Eat more fruits and veggies!!!!!! Duh, moment right? They are multifunctional….good for you and they help fill you up so you eat less. I’m sure there is a list somewhere that has every single good thing about vegetables on it.

Want that nummy cheeseburger? Go for it! Have a side of veggies. My rule of thumb, my veggie sides should be bigger than my main dish…..Eat the veggies first….then you won’t be as hungry to go for seconds (or thirds…for me it’s PASTA)….

If you are hungry and looking for a snack…go for some of your friendly neighborhood freggies!

 2. You are not a turkey….no need to get stuffed!

My number one problem with eating.

Stop eating when you are full…. don’t stuff yourself…. as soon as you start getting full….stop. Put down your fork and stop. Hard to do…but many people’s problem is eating past that “full point.”

Stay conscious while you are eating, take it slow…..if you are anything like me, you don’t notice you are full until it’s too late.

It usually takes about 20 minutes for your body to feel full…take it slow and you’ll get there without diving off the plank into Stuffed Sea.

4. Going out to eat?

Ask for a “to go box” upfront…put 1/2 your meal in it….then enjoy what’s left. I went to Applebees and ordered a meal that came out to 700+ calories…I only at about 350-400 of it…and I was good and full!!!!

If at all possible prepare in advance…if you are going to a franchise look up the nutritional info online. Plan ahead what you are eating upfront…drives my boyfriend nuts…lol.

If you can’t check….ASK ASK ASK…… Ask your waiter what would be healthiest…. they get it all the time… you aren’t the only person on the planet who asks questions about food. People who are vegetarian or vegan do it. People who have allergies do it. People who are diabetic do it.

Why can’t you? If you don’t get a good answer, stick to what seems healthiest and CUSTOMIZE it. Don’t forget…Freggies are your friends!!!

5. Fat is GOOD

Eat fat! Don’t shy away from good fats (nuts, avacados, etc.).

We all need some amount of fats in our diets (hello…on that pyramid thingie)….

Disclaimer: This is not an appropriate excuse for eating your weight in deep fried mushrooms (I’m guilty on that one, I’m sure)

6. Cook at home!

Eat as many home cooked meals as possible. If you cook for yourself it’s easy to regulate what you are putting in your mouth!


So I’m not too sure how to put this delicately…so bear with me…

I’m NOT anorexic.

I eat between 1400-1500 calories a day. The amount that a doctor told me to eat. I am losing weight in a healthy manner. Eating right and exercise.

I am (still) getting emails from some people asking about “mia/ana-lifestyles.” These are the top three questions.

Q. How do you keep yourself from eating when you are starving?
A. I don’t. If I am starving, I eat. I eat healthy snack if I don’t feel like I can wait until my next meal. I manage my meals in a way that I eat 6 small meals a day, so rarely do I get that “starving” feeling.

Q. How many times a day do you purge?
A. Zero. The last time I threw up I had a stomach bug.

Q. What was your longest fast?
A. Four hours, I threatended my mom that if she didn’t get me something I wanted I would go on a hunger strike. I was 9. Other than that….no

So. Again. I am not anorexic. This is a blog for weight loss, yes, but it’s all about how I am losing weight in a healthy manner.

I have been keeping up with a 1% weight loss a week… right now that is a little under 2 pounds a week. When I hit 170ish… I”ll drop down to 1.5 pounds a week.

I know this is a sensitive subject, but I can’t (and won’t) tell anyone how to lose weight in an unhealthy way. I’m sorry I just won’t do it.

My best advice is to go seek medical help, or at least sit down and talk to someone who can help you get better.

I’m not trying to be mean about any of this…but I just wanted to say something… you know?
